It’s 4.30am on Friday morning and I’m sitting in Singapore airport ready to board my flight to Bangkok. Even the airports are different over here. Once I was through to my gates, I went to the bathroom…and instead found a gaping hole in the floor with two footholds next to it to stand on. As I walked to my terminal, I passed a beautiful koi pond and two indoor gardens. I also saw a sign that said there’s a butterfly garden in the next terminal. I met a Singaporean girl a few days ago who told me they’re now making plans to build a waterfall! Apparently they’re the only airport on tripadvisor. They’ll be getting a good, albeit confused, review from me, that’s for sure.
As for the past few days up on the island, they’ve been absolutely magical, memorable, and Malaysian! I still make sure to try a little bit of every strange new type of food I see, and I have yet to find something that I don’t like. It’s all freshly caught fish and meats over rice drizzled in delicious sauces with stir fry vegetables in between. Yum! Despite all the eating, I think I still managed to lose weight because of all the constant activity. If we’re not diving in one of the many colorful reefs nearby, then we’re out boogie boarding in the waves, collecting suppplies from the mainland, dancing on the bar, filming for the resort’s monthly video, cleaning out old sheds full of gecko and bat poop, playing duck-duck-goose with the kids, rolling barrels of fuel up the beach, or climbing palm trees to make fresh coconut water for our piña coladas in the evening. Every day is a new adventure!
